On a WD Sentinel DS Series, the AFP service will create Time Machine share on USB stick if connected as D drive during activation

Issue:

Time Machine backup share is not created on the Data drives when a USB flash drive is connected to the system.

Cause:

During the initial Time Machine connection, a directory is created on the storage as a repository for all Time Machine backups. When there is a USB flash drive attached to the system, the USB will inherit a drive letter (D:\) and Time Machine folder may inherit this drive attributes.

Solution:

Please be sure to remove all external USB device from the unit prior to connecting any Mac computers. In addition, please setup the Data Drives per instructions outlined in the Administrator Guide.
