This article explains which PCIe slot to use when installing the WD_BLACK AN1500 NVMe SSD ADD-IN-CARD.

Motherboard only has one PCI Express x16 slot
If the motherboard only has one PCI Express x16 slot, and no other PCI Express x8 slot, the graphics card is reserved for the PCI Express x16 slot.
It is not possible to use the graphics cards and the WD_BLACK AN1500 NVMe SSD ADD-IN-CARD together.

Motherboard has one PCI Express x16 slot and one PCI Express x8 slot
When there is one PCI Express x16 slot, it is typically used for the graphics card.
WD_BLACK AN1500 NVMe SSD ADD-IN-CARD can be installed on PCI Express x16 and x8 slot, but in some cases when installed on PCI Express x16 slot, it cannot be detected in motherboard BIOS, like MSI Z97I Gaming ACK and MSI Z390-A PRO.
Motherboard has multiple PCI Express x16 slots
When there are multiple PCI Express x16 slots, the first PCI Express x16 slot is typically reserved for the graphics card.
The WD_BLACK AN1500 NVMe SSD ADD-IN-CARD can be installed on the secondary or following PCI Express x16 slots.

Motherboard has onboard (integrated) graphics
When the motherboard has onboard (integrated) graphics, the WD_BLACK AN1500 NVMe SSD ADD-IN-CARD can be installed on any PCI Express x16 slot, including the first PCI Express x16 slot.
